GREEN Jamaica Blue Mountain, Stoneleigh Estate Peaberry
Renowned throughout the world for it’s incomparable standard of quality and smooth, creamy taste profile, Jamaica Blue Mountain has rightfully earned the nickname of ‘The Champagne of Coffee’. Considered one of the best coffees in the world, Jamaica Blue Mountain must meet stringent regulations and be grown under very specific conditions to meet export quality.Â
The mountains are distinguished by their unique micro-climate and location which provide the ideal circumstances for growing high-quality coffee: at high-altitude on a tropical island, where near constant mist and cloud cover gives perfect shading and temperature, and the cool sea breezes provide ideal moisture levels.Â
Over 30 years ago St Clair Shirley decided to follow his dream and farm the fabled Jamaica Blue Mountains. Today the Shirley family continue St Clair’s work to produce a coffee of great and consistent quality at the Stoneleigh and Cinchona estates, high in the parish of St Andrews and right in the heart of the Jamaica Blue Mountains. Stoneleigh Estate is just 60 minutes away from the Stoneleigh Coffee Processing Works, which means that ripe coffee cherries can be pulped, processed, and taken to rest with no delay. Cup is a classic Jamaica Blue Mountain – smooth, with a mild acidity, and a sweet creamy aftertaste.Â
A ‘Peaberry’ bean is a natural occurring mutation of the normal coffee cherry, whereby only a single bean is produced. These smaller, rounder beans are characterised by their sweetness and robust depth of flavour.Â
